The VAG range of engines have several persistent offenders when it comes to failure. The most common engines we replace on a regular basis are the 1.9 Tdi & 2.0 Tdi diesel models which also populate other Marques along with Seat, such as VW, Audi and Skoda.
These common failures include, but are not limited to: Oil pump failure which causes oil starvation to the crankshaft, resulting in the engine developing a condition referred to as ‘Knocking’. This can be clearly be recognised by the engine making a loud banging noise. In severe cases or prolonged use this can often result in the engine seizing up completely, they can even snap con-rods which can result in the engine block being holed.
Another common fault is cambelt failure (if a cambelt engine) whereby the timing belt or tensioner fails and causes the valves to impact upon the pistons which usually results in severe damage to all components contacted and additionally to the cylinder head and cylinder block or bores. Both of these failures usually require a replacement engine to effect a repair.
The Tsi and TFsi range of petrol engines are also frequent visitors to our workshops. These engines are notorious for burning oil, which as a result often leads to premature wear erosion processes to contact components. This is such a common fault that the BBC ‘Watchdog’ television programme featured the issue and many of the unfortunate customers affected by it. Damage as described to these engines usually requires a replacement reconditioned engine to be fitted.
All of the above we can repair at a fraction of the price of a main dealer and usually within 7 days. Most Seat main dealers are currently quoting a 3-4 week repair time on jobs such as these. In addition they won’t offer a courtesy car, a payment plan and many of the other benefits that have to offer.
Here is a list of some of the most common vehicles which we cater for. But don’t worry if you don’t see your engine code as we can cater for Seats of all ages and derivatives.
