LAND ROVER

Discovery – Range Rover – Sport - Evoque

Our third most popular range of engines which we repair on a daily basis are Landrover Discovery and Range Rover Sport. The 2.7 TDV6 and 3.0 Diesel TDV6 engines are the usual suspects and suffer from oil starvation either due to oil pump failure or low lubrication level at some point during vehicle life which has appeared dormant but later manifests to recreate the same problem.

3.0 TDV6 models (also fitted to a Jaguar XF) suffer predominantly with big end bearing failure causing damage to the crankshaft and engine block. This is synonymous with the 2.7 TDV6 engine which are also renowned for the crankshaft physically snapping causing even more severe damage and rendering the engine beyond economic repair.

Interestingly we regularly quote customers for engine replacements for these vehicles and are often informed that they have been quoted a cheaper price to recondition their engines elsewhere. This is astonishing as Landrover do not sell oversize bearings for either of these engines which means that repairing an existing engine with this method is impossible. Furthermore new crankshafts from Landrover are out of stock most of the time due to the high demand. There are cheap poor quality crankshafts available on the market which we never recommend to be used. Many are supplied as genuine Landrover components but are in fact fakes, and often imported from countries such as China where the quality cannot be trusted. If any repairer is offering to repair your vehicle just ask them where they are acquiring the parts from as they are not available from a dealer.

Our reconditioning process consists of genuine Landrover OE (Original Equipment) parts fitted to all of our 2.7 TDV6 engines. The 3.0TDV6 engine we actually supply a ‘Brand New’ short engine complete with reconditioned cylinder heads to complete the process. This results in an engine as near to new as you can get it, and at a price that is roughly a quarter of the main dealer price. We order brand new short engines in quantities of 10 at a time to ensure we never run out of stock. We have also reconditioned engines directly for Landrover Main dealers as it is often cheaper for them to have us carry out repairs than to do the work in their own workshops.

We undertake all repairs on Landrover & Range Rovers in house, and with the correct approach and method. We actually remove the complete cab and body from the chassis which leaves the engine and  gearbox correctly exposed to effect repairs efficiently and without damaging any ancillary components. We are aware that most inexperienced garages will attempt to remove the engine upwards through the engine bay. This is a crude method and invariably ends up with additional unnecessary damage which doesn’t normally become apparent to the customer until later when a damage component fails.
